The Tom and Karen Farmer Family

Disclaimer: My parents inform me that this page is inaccurate. I really don't know, I wasn't there. Personally, I think that these might be true, and perhaps my parents are scared of the truth? Hmm. Not really sure, either way, my parents wish that this page is taken as inaccurate information.

The immediate branch of my family began when Thomas Leslie Farmer and Karen Myers decided to get married. Being an informal, friendly man, Dad first proposed to Mom while they were watching television down in my Grandpa Myers' basement. He nudged her with his elbow and said, "So, you want to get married?" She replied with an emphatic, "Yes, but you have to ask me for real first!"

Dad was attending Brigham Young University, or "The Y", and Mom was studying at the University of Utah, or "The U". These schools are huge rivals, such that it can cause great divisions within many good families. If one sibling decides to go to "The Y" and the other to "The U" these siblings might never speak to each other again. The family will go for decades and barely acknowledge each other. The only acknowledgement given is when they talk to their parents and say, "So, you talk that brother of mine that went to THAT school?" or in casual conversation with friends they might say, "Yes, I once knew a person that went to 'The U', they are dead to me now." Yes, many divisions are caused by this rivalry, but my parents' marriage withstood the test, and passed through even that obstacle.

This is one of my favorite cartoon strips of all time since Dad's a dentist

Eventually they moved to St. Louis, Missouri so Dad could attend the dental school at Washington University. On a side note, Wash U has since closed their dental school. Dad and Mom decided to buy a nice "Fixer Upper" house in a neighborhood called Soulard. It was once a nice looking house, 3 stories, each story a height of 12 feet tall stories. However, by the time they bought it, the house had become quite dilapidated, and the neighborhood had become a not so tranqquil area. My parents, being energetic young go-getters, loved the prospect of fixing up the house. However, both sets of my grandparents, could only think about their little grandchildren growing up there. The grandparents intervened, and successfully persuaded my parents to move to better area located in South St. Louis-a town called Oakville.

I was born while my parents were living in Soulard, and my dear little sister Rebecca, otherwise known as Becca, was born while my parents were on vacation in Salt Lake City. Becca was born 10 weeks early, and only weighed 2 lbs. 1 oz. She was tiny! You could hold her in the palm of your hand, from what our parents tell us. Luckily, she survived, and is now called, to her dismay, "The Miracle Child"! Because she was so early, Becca and I are only 10 months and 12 days apart in age. Leslie, the youngest sibling however, was born a few years later in March of 1982, when we were already living in our new house.

After that, we lived, and we grew, and we had many a fun experience. There are many fun stories, many of which will take many pages to tell. They will be found on the FARMER FAMILY FOLKLORE PAGE
